Specialty Training to Help with Emotional Issues
I help clients overcome depression and anxiety using cognitive therapy; often with their partner participating in the process. I help clients learn to communicate, connect and heal from past wounds within the context of their relationship.
I trained at St. Paul Medical Center in cognitive therapy and at Dallas County MHMR working with serious mental health issues. I have more than 29 years of experience as a state-licensed counselor with a Master’s degree.
I’m independently licensed in Texas and provides various services including assessments and evaluations, and counseling sessions. Including: crisis counseling, short and long term treatment, individual, couples and family work.
I am a Certified Imago Therapist; trained specifically to work with couples. Imago is a Relationship & Solution oriented couples therapy, teaching couples safe communication and leading them to tailor made solutions to core issues (the same old fights). In addition, I integrates “cognitive therapy”, which is based on the belief that we get our emotions from our perceptions or the way we look at things. When we recognize those perceptions we have choices to challenge and change them – giving us choices in our emotions. These models bring individuals healing from past wounds and lead to individual emotional wellness.
Imago has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah’s shows with the creator of the model, Harville Hendrix have won numerous awards.
I also have specialty training in the Gottman model of couples therapy. The Gottman Model is based on over 20 years of clinical research studying the behaviors of couples who succeed and failed in relationships. This model has broken down the specific behaviors of each group so you can be taught precisely how to make your relationship succeed.
As A Christian, I believes that God is the true healer. I’m certified by Marriage on the Rock by Pastor Jimmy Evans. I am currently one of three professional therapists listed on their website. I’m also a prayer minister at Gateway Church. I’m listed as a resource with Focus on the Family.
In addition to marriage counseling, I specialize in mood disorders, family of origin, and women’s issues ( balancing work and home, postpartum depression mother daughter conflict and infertility).
I’ve lived in Colleyville for 23 years and before that I was in Grapevine for 10 years. I went to grad school in Arlington. I grew up in El Paso giving me insight to multiple cultures. My parents divorced when I was seventeen, leading to my interest in healthy divorces and blended family issues. I’ve been married for 32 years. And yes, my husband and I have been through our share of conflict but thankfully, because of my training and his willingness to learn, we’ve gotten through it. I have two daughters, who are now 29 and 25. I understand the difficulties of raising children in todays world, and how that can impact a marriage. These life experiences add to my passion for counseling, my desire to prevent divorce and my passion to make divorce (when it has to happen) as amicable as possible. I love my dogs and grand dogs, I love to swim, do yoga and travel.
