Left Brain Right Brain: Your Brain In Relationship

It’s no secret that opposites attract.  Neuroscience has become more precise in defining the functions of the left and right brain.  We all have capacity to use the entire brain but tend to have dominance on one side or the other. I should be able to write a joke about the therapist married to the engineer, but I think the bottom line of this diagram says it best.

There are particular relational challenges when one of you is analytical and precise and the other is intuitive and risk taking.  Traditional couples counseling leaves much room for these differences to continue to cause conflict.  When couples are taught a structured form of communication they can learn to bridge the gap and understand how their partners see the world.
